My Story

Tracy Burgess, wellness coach, is a domestic violence survivor and advocate who has evolved far beyond the confines of abuse. Throughout years of loss and fighting through seemingly impossible circumstances, her foundation for thriving beyond abuse and for creating her program, Write to Empower, was birthed through expressive writing.

Tracy's use of expressive journaling empowered her to overcome financial, emotional, and spiritual abuse.  Despite a difficult divorce, she earned an Associate in Communications and Media Arts and a teaching certification. Six months later, Tracy made a brave cross-country move to Arizona to begin her career in education.

During seven years of introspection, incubation, and exploration in Arizona, Tracy filled thirteen journals with her struggles and victories. During and after her abusive relationships, she documented her healing process, including ecstatic highs and devastating lows. She also acquired an extensive reading list regarding domestic abuse, dysfunctional relationship dynamics, and self-development.

Tracy's healing work and overall journey inspired her to share her system for success with fellow survivors. She has combined her instructional design skills, personal experience, and several research-based expressive writing practices, to create Write to Empower

Currently, Tracy lives near Chicago, Illinois.  She has an Associate in Communications and Media Arts and a bachelor's in literature. She is an Instructional Designer and Curriculum Developer for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. She enjoys leading her Vegan lifestyle in the vibrant, busy, diverse hustle and bustle of her new town.  Her current projects include raising her kitten, Gatsby, blogging, and writing her memoir.
